Replatforming and cloud migration
I choose with you the right strategy for each application (rehost, replatform, refactor) and move it to the cloud or to containers without stopping the service.
- Who it is for
- Companies with applications on ageing servers or virtual machines that want to move them with controlled risk.
- Where
- Pavia and Lombardy on site by appointment, across Italy and Europe remotely.
- How it starts
- A call, then a written proposal with scope, timing and cost.
Problems I solve
- Not everything needs redesigning: refactoring is the most complex and costly strategy, replatforming is often enough.
- Hidden dependencies between applications and data.
- Migration without downtime windows: a rollback plan is needed.
What you get
- Application inventory with a strategy for each (the 7 Rs)
- Wave-based migration plan with rollback
- Containerised applications and configured managed services
In practice
For each application I pick the right strategy among the "7 Rs" of migration (rehost, replatform, refactor, repurchase, relocate, retain, retire). Replatforming moves the application with limited optimisations: containerisation, managed databases, an updated operating system. Refactoring rethinks the architecture and costs more: I only propose it when it is needed.
- Inventory and strategy choice per application
- Migration without stopping the service
- Containerisation and managed services
- A rollback plan
Technologies
- Docker
- Kubernetes
- OpenShift Virtualization
- AWS
- Azure
- Google Cloud
- MySQL
- PostgreSQL
How I work
- Listening A call to understand the context, the problem and the constraints. No commitment.
- Proposal Scope, timing and cost written clearly, before anything starts.
- Delivery Small shippable steps, regular updates and code in your own repository.
- Handover Documentation and training: the work ends when your team can run it alone.
